Thank you for trying our program ! Please read this text file carefully, as there is some important information provided. Skipping this information may cause you to have problems with the program that you would not have otherwise. This program is 'Shareware' which means a registration fee is required with continued use. You may copy this version of the program and accompanying files (listed below) and pass them on to friends, because it is intended for evaluation. However, if you find you like the program and want to continue to use it, please register it and send in the requested registration fee. See the section 'About Grocery Shopper's List...' for more details on registration. This program is copyrighted and NOT public domain. The program may not be altered or any of its accompanying files. The benefits of registration are also discussed in more detail later in this text. We hope that through your support GSL can continue to improve in its features and quality. -------------------------------------- SETUP: To Setup GSL type "Setup" at the DOS prompt. You will then be led through the setup program. This program will install your printer driver, create a directory and copy the program files to that directory. It is easy to follow and you may exit the setup program at any point if you are unsure about it. You can run the setup program as many times as you like. Note!: It is a good idea to make a back-up copy of the program disk in case something happens to the original. If you wish to set up the program manually, without the help of the provided setup program, the information below will help you. STEP 1: Copy the appropriate printer driver. Example: If the program disk is in drive A: and your printer is an EPSON compatible, at the A: prompt type COPY EPSON.COM PRINTER.COM This may be done any number of times with different drivers. STEP 2: Create a directory. Example: If you wish to install the program into a directory on drive C: called GSL, at the C: prompt type MD GSL STEP 3: Copy the files into the directory. Example: If the program disk is in drive A: and you are copying it to a directory on drive C:, at the DOS prompt type COPY A:\*.* C:\GSL The three steps shown here are what the setup program does, allowing you to determine what printer driver to use, what drive to copy the program to and what directory to create and use (if you desire to create one). -------------------------------------- 1. About VOSS Software Development. VSD has set a goal of developing easy-to-use, yet, satisfying software for home computer users. Our first release, this shopping list generator, may not be revolutionary, but we know many will enjoy it. We certainly hope you do. If there is a program you would like to see provided or an idea you would like to see improved, please, let us know. It is through your input that you will see what you need begin to happen. -------------------------------------- 2. About Grocery Shopper's List (C) and future versions. GSL is an evolving program. In the future more advanced features for editing and customization will be developed. Currently, you must delete an item and start over to change it. This is definitely not convenient, but it is intended that this first release be somewhat brief. Also, Shortcut keys will be added to the menus. There will also be room for more categories, more list items and more coupons in the next version. (At least twice as many.) Note that registering includes an upgrade to an improved version. Even more exciting will be a future addition of a deluxe recipe file, blended into the same environment, offering the ability to merge items smoothly from recipe to the shopping list. As with any quality program, we will continue working to improve the quality of its environment. I hope you enjoy GSL as it is. If you do, please, register. This will insure that you know when enhancements are made. Information and helpful hints will be sent to you periodically. A manual will be written as the program becomes more complex. Best of all, registration entitles you to an improved version right away. If, for some reason this program does not work right for you on your computer. Write to us for more information and tell us what problems you have experienced as well as your computer system setup. (Or write for a different copy of the program for CGA, VGA or MCGA display if that is the case.) The VGA and MCGA allow more information to be displayed on screen at one time than the EGA. The CGA displays the least and runs only in black and white, but the program itself performs exactly the same. ********************************************************************** REGISTRATION: For a demo written in another graphics mode (as described above) send $3.50 for 5 1/4, $4.50 for 3 1/2 to VOSS Software Development, ATTN: Jamie T. Important Information including ON-Line Help. SPECIAL NOTE !!!: Although this program does not limit the number of list items and coupons you may include in a file, It is very important to note that your shopping list (as noted in 'Main List Box' below) will only display and print up to 40 list items at a time. Likewise, when you check your coupons for expiration 30 may be displayed in the expired coupons list and 20 may be displayed as expiring this month. These numbers will be significantly increased in the registered version, as well as the number of categories you may have, giving you much more flexibility and room to work. A system to let you know how many cards you currently have in the file will also be included. Also note that when you select to 'print and delete' or just 'delete' coupons from the 'Coupon Check' card, only the expired coupons are deleted. The coupons of the month remain intact until they expire or you delete them. However, both the expired coupons and the current month coupons are printed. -------------------------------------- *** Main List Card Information: ~Main List Box: Your main list displays up to 50 lines. On the grocery list you have 10 category headers, leaving room for 40 list items. ~Total: This holds the value of your coupon collection when selecting 'VIEW' or 'REMOVE' coupon menus. It also displays your total list cost when you 'VIEW' or 'REMOVE' list items in your grocery list. ~Continue: Use this button when deleting a list item or a coupon card. Select the item with the mouse or keyboard and then press Continue. You will then be asked to confirm the deletion of the item or coupon. ~Cancel: If you select 'REMOVE Coupon' from the menu and you wish to cancel this procedure select this button. This button and the continue button provide the same exit feature when viewing a list. The ESC button on the keyboard will have the same effect as this button. ~Print!: Use this button to print when viewing a list. -------------------------------------- SPECIAL NOTE!!: A 'warning' beep will sound when pressing print in the delete mode but there is no other affect. -------------------------------------- *** List Item Card Information ~Name of List Item: The contents of this field are displayed in your Shopping List when you use the `VIEW Shopping List' menu selection. ~Category Number: This number is used by GSL to sort the List Items into their respective categories. The category number must be a number from 1 to 10. (not 0) ~Category Name: This name must correspond to the category number you choose. It may be helpful for you to make a list of each category and designate a number for it in advance. ~Cost: Put the cost of the list item here. When you make a shopping list the cost of each item will be added up to give you an estimate of your total list expense. ~Save: You must press this button after filling out each card in order to save it in the file. ~Exit: Press this to exit this part of the program. This does not save the contents of your card. ~On/Off: Reserved for use with future versions of this program. -------------------------------------- *** Coupon Card Information ~Name of Coupon: This field is displayed in your list of Coupons when you use the `VIEW Coupon List' menu selection. ~Value: Put the value of your coupon here. When you view your list of coupons GSL will total the value of your coupon collection and display it the `Total' box. ~Date: ~Day: The day that the coupon expires. ~Month: The month that the coupon expires. ~Year: The year that the coupon expires. IMPORTANT NOTE: The year must be four digits. (1990 not just 90) ~Save: You must press this button after filling out each card in order to save it in the file. ~Exit: Press this to exit this part of the program This does not save the contents of your card. ------------------------------------------- 6. Hints for names on Coupon card and List Item Card. In the space for 'Name of Coupon' on the 'Coupon Card' add the expiration date at the end of the space. This will improve the quality of your list when viewing or printing a list of coupons by allowing you to see each individual coupon date. Do the same with the cost of an item in the Name of List Item space on the List Item Card. ------------------------------------------- 7. Sample Categories. You may use the categories in any way that you devise. However, some hints are included here to help you. You may have any number of categories between 1 and 10.
